Man allegedly steals car, runs on foot away from police with toddler in hand, records show

A person is guiding bars just after allegedly thieving a motor vehicle and working from the police with a youngster in his arms.

Mario Oliver, 34, is charged with evading arrest, resisting official detention, theft of residence and boy or girl abuse/neglect after two incidences at the commencing of Might.

On Could 4, the Memphis Police Office (MPD) responded to a vehicle crash and vehicle theft at about 11:15 a.m. at I-240 westbound and Millbranch Street.

The target told law enforcement he was driving on I-240 when he observed a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe that had crashed and rolled above into the ditch, an affidavit stated.

In accordance to a report, the target mentioned he stopped and parked his 2019 Dodge Ram on the crisis shoulder to guide the driver of the Tahoe when that driver ran to the victim’s truck and allegedly sped away.

The victim’s truck was entered as stolen.

On May 6, officers ended up patrolling the region of S. Third Road and Horn Lake Highway just following 12 p.m. when police noticed the stolen truck parked at the fuel pumps of the Exxon in the 4000 block of S. 3rd Road, law enforcement claimed.

The truck was occupied by a guy, later recognized as Mario Oliver, and a female.

In accordance to documents, when Oliver noticed police, he fled from the truck carrying a 1-calendar year-aged.

Whilst working, he dropped the child and continued jogging, disregarding the orders he was becoming presented by officers to halt and surrender, the affidavit explained.

Officers were able to capture Oliver right after he fell to the floor while jogging. The suspect attempted to flee and would not put his arms driving his again for handcuffing.

Officers eventually handcuffed Oliver and put him below arrest, police explained.

The 1-year-old was checked out by paramedics and no injuries ended up observed.

Oliver is because of in court docket on Could 9 and his bond was set at $5,000.
